Michigan's Cannabis Laws
Municipal approval is a crucial step for cannabis businesses, as they can only operate in municipalities that have chosen to permit and regulate these facilities through specific ordinances. This means that cities, townships, and villages have the authority to pass ordinances that allow different types of cannabis facilities, set limitations on their numbers, impose annual local fees up to $5,000, and establish related zoning regulations. It's important to note that while municipalities can enact certain ordinances, they cannot impose regulations on marijuana purity, pricing, or interfere with the state's statutory regulations for licensing cannabis facilities.
